Craft, Colour and Create for Grizzly Bears

This summer, we’re inviting kids of all ages (and by kids, we mean everyone from 1–100) to help show the Government of Alberta that living grizzly bears are important to the province's culture, ecosystems, and economy.

It doesn’t matter if your skill level maxes out at stick people or scribbles; your contribution makes a difference. Some of the most inspiring and influential pieces of art aren’t the most polished; they’re the most honest. They come from curiosity, imagination, big feelings, messy ideas, and people who care enough to put something out into the world.

Conservation doesn’t belong only to experts, artists, or people with the “right” skills. So don’t worry about making it perfect. Make it yours.

Every drawing, poem, sculpture, collage, carving, or colourful masterpiece becomes part of a bigger picture: showing decision-makers that we care about grizzly bears and want a future where they continue to be part of Alberta’s landscapes for generations to come.

Why Grizzly Bears?

Grizzly bears are more than an iconic species; they’re ecosystem engineers and indicators of healthy landscapes. Alberta’s grizzly bears remain listed as Threatened under Alberta’s Wildlife Act, and decisions made today will shape their future for generations to come.

We believe public support matters, and what better way to show that support this summer than through creative storytelling.

That’s where you come in.

How to Take Part

Create something that shows why grizzly bears matter to you.

Your creation can be big or small, detailed or simple. There’s no right way to participate.

Some ideas to get started:

🎨 Draw or paint a favourite grizzly bear image
🧸 Build a sculpture from recycled materials
📝 Write a poem or short story
🪵 Carve, collage, knit, bead, or craft something
🗺️ Imagine and illustrate a future where people and grizzlies thrive together
🐾 Create artwork inspired by what grizzlies need to survive: habitat, food, safe crossings, and coexistence

Make It a Summer Challenge

Turn this into:

  • A family art afternoon
  • A classroom or camp activity
  • A community display
  • A wildlife-themed birthday activity
  • A ‘bad art night’ or paint and sip with friends

Post your creations, tag EWC with @exposdwc, and help us fill this summer with colour, creativity, and support for grizzly bears.

Conservation isn’t just built through policy; it’s built through connection, and what better way to find that than through community.

Ready to create? We can’t wait to see what you make.

Share Your Creation

Once your masterpiece is complete, we’d love to see it.

This fall, EWC will compile and publicly share a collection of grizzly bear-inspired creations with Alberta Ministers as a visual message of support for protecting grizzly bears and the landscapes they depend on.

We also encourage participants to take it one step further: share your creation directly with a personal message explaining why grizzly bears matter to you.

Your voice doesn’t have to be loud to make an impact.

Send photos of your creation to EWC:

Please include your name, location and age, plus any description you’d like to share.
