76% of Alberta’s cougar habitat overlaps with areas open to recreational hunting and trapping. Despite their vital role in healthy ecosystems, cougars are still managed as “trophy” animals rather than as keystone species.
Over 80% of grizzly bear deaths in Alberta are caused by people, primarily through conflict removals, poaching, and vehicle collisions. Reducing these preventable deaths is critical to long-term recovery.
35.8% of the wolf population is lost each year to human causes, through culling, trapping, poisoning, and hunting. These practices are ecologically unsound, failing to address the real drivers of ecosystem imbalance like habitat loss and industrial disturbance.
